Frank and Betty Secomb were the first Life Members of our great club. While Betty died some years ago, Frank celebrated his 102nd birthday on 20 August 2020. During the mid to late 1970s, we did not have enough courts for all juniors to play Saturday morning competition, so courts in the area needed to be hired. Frank and Betty had a court at the rear of their home on the corner of Heathmont Road and Bennett Ave – you have probably passed it many times without realising it.
Xmas Greetings. We would like to wish all our members and patrons a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy break as we see in the New Year. So much has changed this year and yet I have been very encouraged by the strong support of our club by you all. There is a growing base of new people whom we would love to welcome onto our courts to join the fun and companionship we enjoy at HE Parker.
Hey Everyone, I’m pleased to announce, off the back of our highly successful Winter Tournament, the upcoming AdvantEdge Tennis Junior & Senior Pre-Xmas Tournament. This is relevant for Green Ball competition players or higher!!! Dates: 21st - 23rd December, 2020 With no ETA on the resumption of JTs or AMTs, it is only prudent that we provide this forum for players to get as much quality match practice as possible, prior to the year ending.
Under the latest restrictions, tennis can be played at our Parker Reserve Courts, but please comply with the following rules issued by Tennis Victoria. Social distancing of 1.5 meters to be applied at all times. Doubles and singles may be played. No more than 10 participants in a group. When there is a coaching group with 10 people on a court, please leave a court spare on either side. One supervisory adult is allowed on site per child.
The Committee would like to confirm that a 50% discount is on offer for renewal of membership for 2020⁄2021. If you haven’t as yet renewed your membership, we hope this incentive will encourage you to do so – here is the membership form. For those members who have renewed their membership already, we cannot provide a refund to you, but will give the 50% discount off of your 2021⁄2022 membership (next year).
The Victorian Government announced that from 6pm on Sunday 2 August, Victoria entered a State of Disaster. Consequently, all tennis clubs and facilities must close in Metropolitan Melbourne until further notice. We know this is a difficult time for everyone. It is important that we respect the new restrictions for our own health and the health and safety of the wider community. Please do stay safe and healthy during this difficult time and hopefully we can see a return to tennis again in the Spring.
Greetings folks. Hope this update finds you all well and coping with our changing world. As you would be aware, the competition tennis which was due to resume last week did not start due to the resumed lockdown. I was pleased that tennis was more carefully considered in the guidelines due to the inherent nature of tennis giving us ample distance between players while on court playing a game. That said, our off-court behaviour between games needs to be mindful of the restrictions, so as to respect and protect each of our fellow players.
Dear members, Please note that as of midnight tonight, the Maroondah Council has instructed the committee to close the clubhouse and place restrictions on the use of courts, as per the guidelines from Tennis Victoria. Please note that the clubhouse, including the toilets will be off-limits. The courts remain accessible to members - however, doubles only permitted by members of the same household, and singles for those not of the same household.
